Chain hoists: simple, compact, economical
An electric chain hoist lifts with an alloy load chain running over a pocketed wheel. Its strengths: lower purchase cost, compact headroom, easy portability, and simple maintenance. Manual chain pulley blocks go further still — no power needed at all. The trade-offs: slower lifting speeds, and practical capacity limits around 20 tons.
Best for: workshops, assembly stations, maintenance bays, occasional lifts, and locations without reliable three-phase power.
Wire rope hoists: speed, duty, and capacity
An electric wire rope hoist winds steel rope onto a machined drum. It lifts faster, runs cooler over long shifts, and scales to 100-ton class cranes. Precision features — VFD micro-speeds, true vertical lift, higher duty classes — belong to this family. It costs more upfront and needs slightly more headroom.
Best for: production lines, foundries, fabrication shops, and any crane doing frequent lifts every shift.
